Hello, my name is Jessica Scherer (Jessie) and I am a licensed clinical social worker in Colorado. I graduated with my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Denver in 2018 with a concentration in Family Systems. My coursework included theories and practice in family systems, domestic violence, trauma, mental health assessment, and a specialized course in social work practice in post-war Bosnia. I have worked as a therapist to caregivers with adolescents with antisocial behaviors, a therapist to adults with bipolar and adjustment disorders, as well as a therapist to young adults handling life transitions. I have also worked as a domestic violence counselor and advocate, a community organizer, and a school social worker. These varied experiences have shaped my social work and therapeutic practices to include the intersectionality of social justice and mental health.
I have extensive clinical training in evidenced-based therapeutic practices. I also believe in closely examining the expectations and pressures that our society places on us as well as our family system. This is why I approach every session from a behavioral, familial, and relationship perspective, and I see everything through a systemic lens. Whether you are dealing with interpersonal issues or societal concerns, I am here to help you navigate through life’s challenges. I work with adults of all gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientations, and ethnicities.
I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Solution-Focused therapy, Somatic therapy, Narrative therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma- Informed Care. You will find that my approach is empathetic, respectful, and encouraging. I am warm, inclusive, and compassionate. You are the expert in your life. Right now I may not know your story, but I look forward to hearing it.
