Hi there, my name is Jonathan Gears. I specialize in working with teenagers and adults (age 15+) who are struggling with anxiety and depression. Our minds often cause unnecessary suffering through worry, rumination, people pleasing, panic, anger, angst, resentment, excessive busyness, hopelessness, or even numbness or avoidance (to name a few). Therapy is a beautiful practice that allows us an opportunity to gain awareness of the painful experiences that led our minds to this “suffering” pattern. Additionally, therapy allows us to tap into a greater sense of self, that when embraced and trusted fully, can heal and transcend the “suffering”, bringing about life with a greater sense of connection to self, others, and overall sense of purpose. It is the honor of a lifetime to be a part of this process!
I have completed my Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. A person-centered foundation that lays at the heart of my therapeutic style while also leaning heavily on Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Additionally, I borrow from many different theories of psychotherapy including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. My aim is to create a specific individualized therapeutic experience that resonates with each of my clients.
Outside of therapy I favor flannel shirts, reading, coffee shops, and slow mornings with my wife and daughter. I especially enjoy long distance running (marathons and trail runs), cycling, backpacking, and hiking… you know all the basic Colorado stuff! I particularly enjoy slowing down and finding beauty in the small, often overlooked parts of life, things like beautiful music, enriching conversations, and energizing beverages!
