Valerie Hotz-Callis LCSW
Seasoned Compassionate Client Centered
After working with families, couples and individuals for over 35 years, I'm inspired by each person's journey. I adapt my methods to each client's unique needs and believe in empowering individuals and families to make meaningful changes. We work together to develop a plan using your resources, strengths and abilities to find solutions.
Deciding to make a call or fill out a form to begin therapy for any reason takes courage. I believe an important part of my time with clients is to meet this courage with honor and respect. My time with clients provides a safe and welcoming space. With transparency and honesty, the work embraces strengths, develops resources, and minimizes barriers and challenges. Feeling stuck in patterns of emotion, thought and behaviors can transform into a sense of well being and finding solutions. Your path and solutions are self defined. Developing resiliences out of your strengths supports balanced choices for your goals, hopes and dreams.
As a mother and step mother of four, and a grandmother, I know life's challenges and transitions can feel overwhelming. With compassion and understanding I support individuals and families in challenging times to discover clarity, resilience and potentials. My evidence based, solution focused, trauma informed approach supports you in finding intention and meaning. I believe those resources are the foundation for creatively and effectively moving forward.
I'm well experienced in evidence based solution focused, client centered, structural family therapy as well as skill based DBT and trauma treatments including EMDR. I've worked with clients of all ages from all walks of life, with general discontent, work or school situations and stress, anxiety, depression, family and personal life stress, life transitions, life stage adjustments including parenting and grand-parenting, and grief and loss. I'm experienced in addressing recent trauma and lifelong complex trauma with related personal, relationship and social concerns.
I've studied with and learned from leaders in the field (John Weakland, Jay Haley, Steve DeShazer, Insoo Berg, Salvador Minuchin, Chloe Madannes, Dr.'s John and Julie Gottman, Marty Beyer, Dr. Bessel Van der Kolk, Laura Parnell, Francine Shapiro and Dr. Marsha Linehan and more) and continue to enjoy learning and growing in my work. I'm committed to apply these diverse ideologies to offer you a positive and personalized therapy experience.
