Monica is a counseling intern currently pursuing her Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Northern Colorado. Her academic background includes a double major in International Affairs and Asian Studies from the University of Colorado Boulder. Prior to returning to academia to fulfill her aspiration of becoming a therapist, she worked as a translator within the tech industry in Los Angeles, California. Growing up in Denmark with a Danish father and an American mother, she spent a significant portion of her life in the United States. This upbringing fostered a keen interest in the study of cultures and languages, which has enriched her understanding of diverse human experiences and difficulties.

She prioritizes creating a supportive, secure, and empathetic space for everyone as they strive for profound self-acceptance and insight. As a neurodivergent individual, she is a strong advocate for a neurodiversity-affirming approach in her work with clients, recognizing neurological differences as a normal and valuable aspect of human diversity. She believes that by learning to accept ourselves and embracing our inherent human traits, we can cultivate strength, allowing many of our characteristics to emerge as strengths rather than being perceived as flaws.

Her areas of passion include working with adults who experience ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, loneliness, self-esteem challenges, and bereavement. Utilizing various therapeutic methods such as person-centered therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), strengths-based therapy, mindfulness practices, art-based interventions, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), she collaborates with clients to explore tools and perspectives that support them in navigating their lives and connecting with their innate capacity to recover.
