Are you looking for a safe space to explore therapeutic options that go beyond simply sharing with friends and family?
Pain is not just physical; it often leads to a mental shift that can leave you feeling helpless and exposed. The effects of suffering can be even more profound for those with marginalized identities—whether related to gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.
It's essential to acknowledge and respect the complexities of living in these uncertain times. I am here to guide you in unpacking emotional distress, navigating the path to healing, and rediscovering your self-worth and resilience. Together, we will focus on creating healthy boundaries in your relationships, grounded in mutual respect, so you can truly embrace the understanding that You Matter.
My name is Masako (pronounced Maa-sah-koh, she/her), and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Registered Play Therapist. I specialize in integrating Synergetic Play Therapy (SPT) with a Psychodynamic approach to support clients dealing with trauma, life transitions, anxiety and depression, as well as relational conflicts.
I firmly believe that play therapy extends beyond children; it can also be a powerful tool for adults coping with trauma, stress, grief, and challenges related to neurodiversity.
Navigating life as a bilingual person presents a unique set of complexities—filled with the richness of cultural diversity and the difficulties of often feeling like an outsider, while sometimes being able to blend in as white.
As an immigrant in the United States, I have encountered significant psychological challenges that I was unaware of while living in Japan, where I belonged to the dominant racial group. This experience has taught me that ignorance can serve as a form of privilege, allowing those in positions of power to overlook the inequalities and injustices that permeate our society.
Drawing from my personal journey as a Japanese individual in the U.S., I am dedicated to using my professional platform to advocate for and support marginalized communities.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, practicing flower arranging (Sogetsu school), and relaxing with family and friends.
