My path to the counseling profession includes years of experience with my own mental health journey, a desire to help people in a very direct and meaningful way, and the affirming encouragement from friends, family, and even the occasional stranger. As I navigated past career changes, I consistently received feedback about my calming and compassionate demeanor and empathic abilities. My Buddhist background has deeply shaped my belief in being of service to others and has given me new perspectives in human psychology, informing my approaches to counseling. This community compared me to a mountain, able to weather storms with a grounding presence.
My counseling approach begins with a humanistic foundation, guided by the belief that every person holds the capacity for growth and healing. I believe in creating a safe, welcoming space where you can feel truly heard and understood. I value and honor the many identities and life experiences that make each person unique, always considering the cultural and social contexts that shape our lives. My approach also draws on mindfulness practices, neuroscience, present-focused dialogue, and exploring the “unfinished business” that may be impacting your present life. To tailor counseling to your needs, I also incorporate CBT, DBT, and narrative therapy practices.
As I continue to learn and grow into my professional identity, I have gravitated toward working with adults with special interests in men’s mental health, trauma-informed approaches, grief counseling, and identity development. I am especially interested in Internal Family Systems therapy, or “parts work,” which helps us understand and integrate the many inner voices that make up who we are.
I am eager to accompany you on your path of healing, self-exploration, and personal development.
When I’m not practicing therapy or grinding through my master’s degree, you will find me having some type-2 fun, such as rock climbing or hiking a mountain with friends. Occasionally, I get to squeeze in a group read-through of an 18th-century comedy play or a new video game.
