In order to survive trauma and other difficult life experiences, we cope the best way that we can. Some people numb their feelings by creating a life of perpetual busyness, some cope with food, others with alcohol or substances. Others might isolate because their experience interacting with the world has resulted in so much hurt.
Our coping strategies that may have worked in the past may no longer feel like they are working during this time. We may feel like we are losing contact with ourselves and others, feeling disconnected from experiencing connection or joy.
The most challenging work of being in therapy is often the work that you will do outside of our time together, as this often requires a new way of moving through your world. You might have to examine some old patterns of surviving, shift relationships, set boundaries for yourself, prioritize your well-being. That rich work requires a lot of support.
My therapeutic lens integrates somatic interventions, mindfulness, and EMDR and is informed through a justice framework, allowing for exploration of the impact of oppression on individual identities and lived experiences. Let’s co-create a space that centers your inner wisdom and cultural and spiritual traditions, and builds on your natural resilience.
