I am a trauma therapist located in Broomfield, Colorado. I have been in the field since 2013, and I am licensed in Colorado. I have been actively engaged in trauma work throughout my career, and I have been practicing eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) since 2018. In my work with EMDR as an approved consultant, I have received additional training in depression, anxiety, phobias, parts work, trauma in the perinatal period, and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). I am perinatal mental health certified (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International, which means that I have engaged in extensive training and preparation to support those in the perinatal and postpartum periods.
We all have things in our lives that we wish hadn't happened. Experiencing challenging or traumatic events is incredibly difficult in and of itself, and the continued physical and emotional fallout from these events makes it even harder to feel like yourself. Fortunately, the effects of trauma aren't something you have to continue living with. With hard work, preparation, and lots of support through the EMDR process, you can feel better.
Becoming a parent is hard. There are many things that go along with bringing a child into your life, and sometimes the adjustments and changes that have to be made aren't what you wanted or expected. Symptoms of anxiety and depression can start to creep in, and they can be difficult to shake without support. Sometimes PMADs begin in the perinatal or postpartum periods, and sometimes they have roots earlier in life. The good news is that regardless of their source, trauma and PMADs are treatable. You can gain skills to weave who you are as a parent in with who you used to be, and who you want to become.
