Hello, my name is Miranda Weiler-Ireland and I am an intern at Fearlessly Authentic Psychology. I am currently a graduate student pursuing my master’s in mental health counseling with a focus on Expressive Arts Therapy at Lesley University.
Expressive Arts Therapy is a field of counseling that uses many different art forms to help clients process, explore, and express their inner world. You might have heard of art therapy, music therapy, or drama therapy. Each of those focuses on one primary medium. Expressive arts therapy combines multiple mediums so we can move between visual art, movement, sound, writing, or drama to find what feels most comfortable and helpful for you.
One of the most important things to know is that expressive arts therapy is not about artistic skill. Healing happens in the process, not in creating a perfect product. You do not need any prior experience in art, music, or performance. You do not have to consider yourself creative. What matters is what emerges for you as you use the arts to connect with your authentic inner self in a space free from judgment and critique.
In sessions, I aim to create a warm, welcoming environment where you can explore both through conversation and through creative processes. We might use drawing, collage, movement, sound, imagery, or storytelling to access feelings and experiences that are hard to put into words. My goal is to walk alongside you at a pace that feels right, helping you discover new ways to express yourself, make meaning, and move toward greater self-understanding and wholeness.
