My primary goal as a therapist is to help people connect to their innate truth and wisdom - to honor the ways the body protects and organizes itself around trauma and shock, and to facilitate a shifting of deeply held patterns in the nervous system. The primary modality I use is called Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR). DBR is a trauma psychotherapy that allows the client to engage in a profound way with their own felt experience, enabling stuck physical and emotional patterns to unwind.
My career path began in the restaurant industry simply talking with people at the bar. I felt curious about all the stories I heard, which eventually led me to grad school to be a counselor, and then to exploring the use of neurofeedback when I wanted to understand the brain at a deeper level. I felt inspired by the use of technology to help people make tangible changes in how their brains functioned. Over the years I have worked in mental health I have become more and more fascinated with how our brains adapt to traumatic experiences and how it is difficult for insight alone to change these adaptations. Introducing DBR into therapy brings with it an intentionality- to turn toward one's own felt sense, to respect how the body has adapted and compensated around lived experience, and to reconnect with one's agency and inherent wholeness.
