I'm Holly! As your therapist, it is my goal to support you in becoming a better version of yourself. It is my belief that life's early experiences have taught us things about the world that may no longer be the most helpful or true today; even if they were true at the time in our past. When we don't adapt and remain flexible, we find ourselves in a web of mistaken beliefs, thinking errors and unresolved life problems. As a result, it becomes hard to find our way and manage life's challenges in the "here-and-now".
I graduated from Metropolitan State College with a double major Bachelor of Arts in Behavioral Science and Child Welfare. After graduation in 1993, I spent time learning about the child welfare system while working within a private child placement agency for about 10 years. The latter of my time I transitioned to part-time work while raising my children. As they got older, I decided it was time to move on to complete my Masters degree. In 2004 I obtained my degree in Counseling at Regis University. Once I graduated, I gained my years of clinical experience through community mental health and child welfare. After 20 years, I decided it was time to be a full-time private practice therapist.
I am a firm believer of the importance of being present when my clients find a new way and authentically experience change. I've worked with clients from many walks of life and with varied needs. My areas of expertise are in Behavior Modification, Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, PTSD, complicated relationship issues, co-parenting issues, parenting issues. As an adoptee myself, I have a special interest in providing services to families with Adoption related issues (foster/kinship post adoption for parents and adoptees).
I use a holistic approach with several research-based interventions including DBT and Solution-Focused Therapy to help my clients bring out the best in themselves. I like to use humor, challenging questions, and a direct approach because I think in counseling we should get to the point, and we should have fun doing it.
My favorite activities when I'm not at work are spending time with my family – I have 4 adult children, 3 grandchildren and 2 dogs. I have a full and active life with a love for travel to the mountains or faraway places, going to concerts (freebees in the park are some of the best), listening to music, listening to suspenseful podcasts and I love painting.
Selecting a therapist can be difficult because it's not easy to know exactly what you are getting into. That’s completely understandable! I am here to help you navigate questions, thoughts and feelings. It takes a lot of courage to reach out for help and for that I appreciate you. It's my hope that we will make a great team and you will become that better version of yourself you're searching for.
