Welcome!
I'm Nikki, and I am a licensed clinical social worker based in Fort Collins, Colorado. I am also licensed in Oregon and Washington, with California in the works. I work in private practice at Through the Woods Counseling, specializing in EMDR and veterinary social work and I provide clinical care for individuals navigating trauma, stress, and life transitions.
I also focus on the intersection of trauma-informed clinical care and the veterinary profession's unique mental health needs, addressing the psychological and emotional demands the profession places on its practitioners at every career stage, from students traversing the rigors of vet school to seasoned vets, techs, and support staff who are managing compassion fatigue and burnout. My background includes an internship with DVM Counseling Services at Colorado State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital, where I currently supervise other social work students.
I am passionate about equipping veterinary professionals with practical, research-backed tools for resilience, stress regulation, and long-term well-being in their careers.
