Yay, diva, you found me! My name is Elena and I use she/her pronouns. I am a queer, white, neurodivergent therapist. I also identify as a codependent in recovery, an adult child of an alcoholic, and have lived experience of a childhood/adolescence in a low socioeconomic family. All of these separate identities, as well as their intersectionalities, have been pivotal in the human I have become and the work that I do. When I started to learn more about supremacy culture, I realized that so much of what I have felt shame for was never my fault. So many of us have been taught to feel ashamed so that the patriarchy, capitalism, colonialism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, zionism, xenophobia, and billionaires could thrive. As a compassion focused therapist, I am quick to remind my clients of the things that were never our responsibility to hold.
When working with me, you or your child can expect to be met with deep compassion, active collaboration, exploration, and even some cheerleading. I will always root for you.
My practice is one that centers and celebrates authenticity, courageous exploration, and collaborative therapeutic relationship. In practice, this can look like taking the time to build trust and connection, pulling from a wide variety of modalities, and curiosity and silliness when needed (which I believe is often!) I have seen many therapists feel the need to rush into “fixing”; in my work, there is no rush and there is no “fixing”. Together, we will sit in the messy experience of being human; exploring and learning from our pain while uplifting and celebrating the joys. We will co-create your therapy experience, making it into whatever you need it to be in order to feel as safe as possible.
I also bring an anti-oppression and decolonization lens to the work of therapy, as this helps to ensure that I do my best to mitigate the harmful impacts of these systemic issues in the healing space. I will certainly make mistakes. I hope you do, too! These are opportunities for both of us to practice collective learning, unlearning, and healing. I believe that therapy is community. We may share certain identities and there will be those we do not share, yet it remains a community. We need all the community we can get right now, so let’s go there, together.
