Hi, I’m Lauren! I’ve been an LPC in Colorado for the past six years. I received my undergraduate degree in Forensic Psychology and, after realizing that becoming a criminal profiler like the ones on Criminal Minds might be a slightly far-fetched goal, I decided to pursue my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. After completing my program, I packed up my life in Illinois and moved out here to Colorado.
Since moving to Colorado, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients across different ages, backgrounds, and reasons for seeking therapy. My clinical background includes working as a SOMB provider, working with children and families, and working with individuals.
I strive to create a therapeutic relationship grounded in trust, empathy, safety, and authenticity. One piece of supervision from early in my career that has always stuck with me was my supervisor describing the therapy relationship as “finding a good pair of hiking boots.” (How appropriate for the city girl who moved to nature central, right?) But the analogy really drove home an important point: there are a lot of amazing therapists out there, and finding the right fit matters. Therapy is a journey, and having a therapist who feels like the right fit can make a meaningful difference along the way.
As someone who has spent time on both sides of the chair, I know both personally and professionally that therapy can be challenging, uncomfortable, healing, and empowering—all at the same time. Therapy with me is about holding space for that duality and for the full spectrum of emotions that come with being human.
My goal is to empower the people I work with to identify their needs, goals, and wants within the therapy space. Some days, therapy may look like processing through a current stressor. Other days, it might look like creating a concrete plan to accomplish a goal. And sometimes, it may mean dipping into the “deeper” work. I believe therapy should be flexible enough to meet you where you are, rather than expecting you to fit into one particular model or approach.
Another goal of mine is helping clients connect with a sense of safety and authenticity within themselves, because I believe that can be a catalyst for the growth so many of us are seeking.
In the interest of authenticity, I also like to share a little about how I show up in sessions. I’m a first-time mom with ADHD. You will often find me with a coffee—or, more realistically, a small harem of half-finished drinks and snacks. I rarely sit completely still, and I will take some notes. My face will also probably show my emotional reactions because I’m not a blank slate. Your experiences are emotional, and I believe those emotions deserve to be seen, honored, and understood.
I utilize a tailored approach based on your individual needs, which may include CBT, DBT, somatic approaches, narrative therapy, play and art-based approaches, IFS, and attachment-informed approaches. I believe strongly in using interventions grounded in evidence-based practices while also considering how those approaches actually fit your brain, your life, and your goals.
Areas of specialty include trauma, mood disorders, neurodivergence (including Autism and ADHD), identity exploration, life transitions, and working with the LGBTQIA+ community.
If this sounds like a therapeutic approach that might be a good fit for you, I look forward to meeting with you. It would be an honor to be considered as part of your healing journey.
