My name is Ben Morrow and I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado. I use he/him/his pronouns, and identify as a white-bodied, straight-ish, cisgender man in long-term recovery from a substance use disorder. My personal experiences with mental health systems and professionals, both positive and negative, are what led me to become a therapist. I was previously a professional stage actor working in New York and regionally on new play development and production.

I believe that creating a secure, supportive therapeutic relationship is critical to effective therapeutic work, irrespective of modality. Moving at the speed of trust and exploring appropriateness of fit are essential, starting with consultation and continuing in initial sessions. My overall approach to therapy is client-centered and collaborative; we will work together to identify and actualize what is of value and importance to your personal journey and development.

I am trained in Contemplative Psychotherapy and EMDR. My approach is also informed by an array of cognitive, somatic, and relational modalities. Contemplative Psychotherapy is a person-centered, humanistic approach rooted in mindfulness and Buddhist psychology. Its core principle is cultivating unconditional friendliness toward oneself. It holds the view that our basic natures as human beings are brilliantly sane, compassionate, and clear. What gets in the way of our intrinsic health is the buildup of causes and conditions that create confusion and disconnection from our basic goodness. The work is to discover and build a relationship with the intrinsic health that already exists through building curiosity, awareness, and gentleness toward oneself.

My clinical experience includes working in outpatient-based community mental health, short-term intensive trauma processing, residential/transitional programs, and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) settings. I am experienced working with clients with a wide range of presenting concerns, from depression, anxiety, and life transitions to substance use, relational difficulties, and PTSD. I have worked with clients across the lifespan holding a variety of identities and backgrounds, and am currently accepting adult clients ages 18 and up for individual therapy. I offer free, 20-minute consultation calls and invite you to reach out if you feel we might be a good fit!
